A Bridge to Learning

Methodology

A Bridge To Learning's program is based on the methodology developed by O. Ivar Lovaas, Ph.D., and encompasses more than 30 years of scientific research and clinical experience. Controlled studies document that with early, comprehensive intervention, a sizable minority of children diagnosed with autism have been able to achieve normal educational and intellectual functioning by 7 years of age (Lovaas, 1987; McEachin, Smith, & Lovaas, 1993).

These children have been mainstreamed into normal classrooms and have advanced through the school system successfully of their own merit. They appear indistinguishable from their peers in measures of social and emotional functioning.

The children who do not attain normal intellectual and academic functioning most often achieve significant improvements in appropriate and negative behaviors. While a large variability exists in their outcomes, most children acquire a means of communication, and are able to learn in either aphasia or special education classrooms.

A Bridge to Learning was founded in 2001 and provides comprehensive early intervention to approximately 40 children with developmental delays, including children diagnosed with autism and related disorders throughout the United States and Europe.
